The radio drama To Have Done with the Judgment of God (Pour en Finir avec le Jugement de Dieu), written by the French poet Antonin ARTAUD in the twilight of his life, compresses his illness and madness into an auditory poem, which was then recorded. This radio drama, created by Artaud and three actors, is replete with meaningless vocalizations, destructive recitations, Artaud's screams, and a tumultuous fusion of a deflating xylophone melody and percussion rhythms that disrupt various categories in a perverse and sensual manner from the moment it begins. The consciousness of crises such as the impending world war and the transformation of the human body due to technology and capitalist control, as narrated in the piece, resonates like a prophecy in the contemporary world.
In this work, the radio drama has been edited and augmented with additional audio to re-summon Artaud's curse from his later years as a contemporary auditory piece. The curse, transmitted through approximately 1300 meters of audio cable and cathode-ray tubes, undergoes erosion, transforming away from its original message. With the passage of distance (or time) and mediation through media, the curse may acquire a different meaning or perhaps lose its significance altogether.

The work is made from repaired LED panels that were discarded as industrial waste and driven by a self-made controller.
The exhibition, which I also curated, attempted to show the inseparable relationship between urban development and waste through research on Tokyo's landfill sites. The photos, video, audio and text recorded during the research were learnt by Al, and the output was edited and projected onto the LED panels.

The term "MONAURALS" refers to the very simple state of our world.
The world we can perceive (or imagine) is composed of an infinite number of monorals. A monaural is defined here as what we perceive to be a single sound emanating from an entity. The world is a complex acoustic space created by the parallel superposition of as many monorals as there are such entities. It should be obvious to anyone that our surrounding world alone is filled with an extremely large number of monaural sound signals. Of course, most of these myriad monorals do not care about humans. Many of them emit non-audible frequencies, ultrasonic waves, or are localized at extremely low volumes. However, humans have long since been able to process and live with even these using their bodies and their two ears. The emergence of audio brought about a major change in man's relationship with mono and sound, which had existed essentially independently of the ear in this way. Audio has decisively oriented human perception beyond the magical appeal of its machines.
The playback of "Mary's Lambs" on the phonograph, Edison's invention, gave the audience the illusion that the very same Edison who had just sung the song had reappeared on stage, like a ghost. From there to the present day, the audio experience has created an illusion that has given a "kind of" to the human sound world while at the same time blowing away the imagination of sound outside of the human audible range (20 Hz to 20 kHz). With the advent of the ghosts of the near past reproduced in their highly reduced form, we gained the objective perception of hearing even the complex acoustic space of the world as if it had been reproduced beforehand. With the advent of stereo, such an audio perception became even more distant from reality. The ghost of reduced sound is transformed into a ghost of space called the phantom center by the binaural effect of two speakers and two human ears. The pseudo-world acoustics experienced by stereo and phantom center seem to further intensely anesthetize our perception, numbing our senses to the point where we can no longer even imagine the complex landscape that existed before audio.
Sound is constrained by the symbolic meaning of stereo. And perhaps this feedback/audio perception, which reduces the environment to its greatest common denominator and returns the experience of the pseudo-world to the perception of the environment, is not only the perception of sound, but also the perception we unconsciously exhibit in our interactions with all other people.
The term "MONAURALS" is intended to liquidate once and for all our post-stereo audio perceptions. The plural "s" represents the basic configuration of this world: not multichannel, but single things, each existing in a discrete way.
All participating artists were asked to prepare their work basically in sound and in mono format. We believe that the experience of mono, coming back via stereo, will feel extremely eerie. However, we would like you to feel a sense that there is always a new form that can be started from there. And I am convinced that exploring dimensions that are still hidden, is a point that can only be reached by our listening now that we have passed through stereo. Various new sound media, such as stereophonic sound and VR, have appeared along with the times, but they are all created by the imagination of stereo. There will continue to be a thorough separation of sound and environment. Before that happens, I would like to invite you to stop and imagine another line, and to experience the monaural imagination by all the wonderful artists to the fullest.
